Absa on Thursday launched Features Store, a new platform it says will give its customers full control over their own transactional banking needs.

The online platform is intended to be a one-stop shop where Absa clients can acquire new banking products and tailor their banking services.

“The needs of banking customers are constantly evolving and expectations are becoming increasingly sophisticated. The aim is to give you control of your financial solutions anywhere, anytime,” says chief executive of Barclays Africa retail banking Arrie Rautenbach.

He says the Features Store is essentially an interactive platform that allows customers to turn their account into a bespoke packaged account. Customers can apply online for a flexi, gold, platinum or private banking account with immediate confirmation of acceptance. This is something that used to take hours and even days, says Rautenbach.

The new platform gives Absa customers the opportunity to add a variety of products and services to their accounts. These include the ability to buy the latest cellular technology, redeem travel offers, take up promotions and select from prepackaged health, security, legal and lifestyle services.

Customers can also view and customise their banking accounts with the benefits that they choose to add or remove. A running tally of monthly costs will be visible during this process and users can complete all paperwork online. Fica registration requirements will be conducted via the online platform and verified by Absa without the customer needing to go into a branch.

“People have become accustomed to being able to tailor their retail product purchases, from cellphones to cars, at the point of purchase. Absa now offers the same level of customisation with its banking platform,” says Rautenbach.  — (c) 2014 NewsCentral Media
