Google is stepping up its war with Apple, unveiling a Web-based application and store and demoing a new version of its Android operating system tailored for tablet computers at an event in Mountain View, California on Wednesday.
The new version of Android, codenamed Honeycomb, is the first version of the software specifically tailored for tablets, a market which was dominated by Apple’s iPad in 2010. Honeycomb, officially Android 3.0, will run on a range of tablet devices from different hardware manufacturers.
