Cell C debuts ‘social bundles’

The freshly restructured and recapitalised Cell C has launched a range of new products, called “social bundles”, which offer data, “free” social media access and a large volume of any-network voice minutes.

The plans, which are available from 20 September, start at R29/month for 100MB of data, 100MB of WhatsApp and Facebook data, and 150 any-network minutes. Three hundred SMSes are included in all the plans, along with either five or 10 free games.

At the high end, Cell C is offering 5GB of data, 3GB of Facebook and WhatsApp data, and 3 600 any-network minutes (see the table below for more information).

The new plans come just a day after the operator said it would slash out-of-bundle data pricing on certain packages to 15c/MB (about R150/GB) and relax data expiry rules.

Customers can use the Facebook and WhatsApp data allocations without impacting the regular in-bundle data.

Customers on all prepaid plans, the post-paid Connector plans, Pinnacle plans and SmartData offers, will be able to purchase the new bundles. They can carry over unused value by purchasing a minimum basic social bundle, Cell C said. The seven promotional bundles all have a 30-day validity period.

At the same time, Cell C is introducing a fair-use policy on its standalone WhatsApp plan. From 1 October, a 600MB FUP will apply, it said. — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media

  1. Pity Cell C are rubbish at everything else. Their bundles are good value but I won’t ever be a customer of theirs again…. Cancel a contract, they keep debiting. Something goes wrong, they sit on their hands. I had an account with them that my company took over and after 2 years the company went bankrupt. I paid the account and they still cancelled my number and wouldn’t reinstate. They then over charged me for the company’s bill and then promptly cancelled my number. NEVER AGAIN CELL C. I’d rather not have a phone.

  2. Ofentse Letsholo on

600mb FUP for WhatsApp data?! These people advertise it as Unlimited so now they are coming up with this crap? I mean we pay for 1.2GB for WhatsApp data. ICASA needs to solve these people out. Nahhhh man data is insanely expensive in SA.
