MTN said on Friday that it will increase the price of some of its post-paid plans from 1 May and 1 June.

The date of implementation could vary depending on customers’ billing cycles, it said.

The mobile operator has blamed inflationary pressures and increased input costs for the adjustments.

“There will be an increase of approximately 4% and, in some instances, it will be slightly more, to align to market-related pricing,” the company said in a statement.

“Even though some packages increased by more than 4%, others attracted no increase at all,” it said.

MTN will also increase itemised billing charges by 4% and caller-line identity fees by 4%.

Selected My MTNChoice Flexi price plans’ inclusive contract value will change to align to the new subscription prices from 1 June, it added.

The price hikes come as rival Vodacom also increases prices. Vodacom said last month that it would implement a “below-inflation average increase on certain prepaid, hybrid and contract plans” on 1 April.
