Workers at publishing company Trudon, which publishes the Phone Book and the Yellow Pages, will strike against a proposed wage increase of 6%, the Communication Workers Union said on Monday.
Trudon is a subsidiary of Telkom, which owns 64,9% of the company.
About 8 000 union members would strike countrywide from Tuesday to demand a 9% increase, spokesman Matankana Mothapo said. He said the employer’s offer was an insult as it was barely more than CPI of 5,3%.
On Tuesday, workers would picket outside Trudon’s headquarters in Bruma, Johannesburg. Workers would then march to their respective offices at 10am on Thursday to hand over a list of demands.
From Friday, an indefinite stayaway would be in effect.
In addition to publishing the Yellow Pages and the Phone Book, Trudon operates a mobile directory and call centre. — Sapa
