ANC may change rules on leaders

The ANC could alter its rules for choosing leaders, Business Day reported, citing deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Any changes agreed at the ANC’s policy conference in June would need to be ratified by the party’s national conference in December before being implemented and may not affect who succeeds President Jacob Zuma as ANC leader, the Johannesburg-based newspaper said.

The 105-year-old ANC will choose a new president at its national conference when Zuma’s term ends.

His ex-wife and outgoing African Union chairwoman, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa are seen as frontrunners for the position.  — (c) 2017 Bloomberg LP
