National fibre operator FibreCo Telecommunications has poached Broadband Infraco’s Sammy Mafu as its new business development executive.

Mafu, who was chief marketing and sales officer at the state-owned Broadband Infaco, will be responsible for driving growth at FibreCo as well as aligning its strategy with government’s national policy framework on universal connectivity.

FibreCo CEO Simon Harvey said Mafu will help sell FibreCo’s open-access broadband connectivity solutions in the education and health sectors, and position its services for underserviced communities.

Mafu has 21 years of telecoms experience in sales, marketing, product development, strategy and commercial deal structuring working as a founder staff member at Cell C.

Other previous positions held were at JDA, Telkom, MTN and Siemens, FibreCo said in a statement.

Mafu holds a BA and postgraduate degree in management from the University of Cape Town, an MBA from the University of Hull in the UK and is assigned the “chartered marketer” designation by Wits University and the Marketing Association of South Africa.

FibreCo’s network consists of 4 000km of underground fibre routes and hosting facilities interconnecting about 50 sites nationwide.  — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media
