    Telkom snaps up Samsung’s Liebenberg

    Deon Liebenberg

Deon Liebenberg, until last week the MD of Samsung Electronics in SA, has been appointed as the head of Telkom Business Mobile with immediate effect.

Liebenberg headed up Samsung in SA for the past year. He will now report to Telkom Business MD Brian Armstrong.

Liebenberg joined Samsung last July, having previously headed up BlackBerry maker Research in Motion’s sub-Saharan Africa operation and held various positions within the company during his almost five years there.

Aside from his lengthy stint at Research in Motion, Liebenberg has also worked as SA sales director for Motorola and as the executive head of sales for Vodacom SA.

This isn’t the first time Liebenberg has worked for Telkom, having previously been a senior manager at the company. He worked there for six years, before departing for Vodacom in 2001.

Liebenberg holds a bachelor of economics degree from the University of the Free State and an MBA from Stellenbosch University. TechCentral was unable to reach him on his mobile phone on Monday morning.

Telkom Business Mobile is keen to leverage the ability to offer business customers “converged” fixed and mobile services. The company said last month that it intends to launch two dozen fixed-line and mobile product bundles. Despite aggressive pricing, Telkom Business Mobile and consumer mobile arm 8ta have failed to gain significant market share since the mobile services were launched in October 2010.  — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
