Nestlé South Africa has launched the world’s first 3D-printed chocolate exhibition. Chocnology, currently on show at the Museum of African Design in Johannesburg, is being held in conjunction with Google, which recently launched Android “KitKat”, version 4.4 of its operating system for mobile devices.
The exhibition showcases original sculptures designed by 10 South African artists made entirely out of chocolate, using Android KitKat as their inspiration, and printed using a 3D printer.
The process was completely digital, with designs created on Android and using free online 3D modelling tools.
For the sculptures to be produced, a 3D printer that normally uses a plastic-based filament was manipulated to use chocolate as its raw material. This allowed for intricate, 3D sculptures.
The 3D-printed chocolate sculptures can be viewed at the Museum of African Design at the Maboneng Precinct until Sunday, 10 November 2013. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
