Afrihost, the Internet service provider best known for its aggressively priced digital subscriber line (DSL) and mobile data products, is belatedly entering the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband market.
The company said on Tuesday that it will launch Afrihost Fibre Internet on Wednesday in partnership with three FTTH infrastructure companies, namely Vumatel, TT Connect and Telkom.
“Over the coming weeks and months, Afrihost will be adding more providers to our network to ensure the largest fibre footprint possible,” it said in a statement.
Similar to Afrihost’s DSL packages, each fibre package will have a “home”, “business” and “premium” option.
“Home” is geared towards the Web surfer, “premium” towards the gamer and media addict, and “business” towards heavy and business users, it said.
All Afrihost fibre packages are bundled, so there are no additional charges like there are on DSL.
The company has not said how much the new plans will cost. A spokesman said pricing will be released on Wednesday, but added that the new plans will start at R499/month. — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media
