Shoprite Group’s Checkers Sixty60 app is getting a major overhaul, with the retail group promising “lightning-fast delivery” of 10 000 larger-sized products from its Checkers Hyper stores with same-day fulfilment.

New delivery vans have been added to its existing to its fleet of delivery vehicles to support the new product range, which includes large items.

Checkers is promising same-day delivery scheduled within a 60-minute timeslot.

Delivery is free during beta testing and will remain free for Xtra Savings Plus subscribers

The new range of items includes camping and outdoor gear, small appliances, baby products, toys, kitchen and home electronics, and gardening and pool equipment, according to a statement by Shoprite on Friday. Advertised prices are the same as in-store pricing, the company said.

Delivery is free during beta testing and will remain free for Xtra Savings Plus subscribers. Xtra Savings Plus – which is not dissimilar to Amazon Prime or Takealot’s new TakealotMore – offers free delivery and other benefits to users who pay R99/month for the service.

“We’re confident that the next iteration of Sixty60 will again disrupt online retail in South Africa,” said Neil Schreuder, chief of strategy and innovation for the Shoprite Group, in the statement.

    ‘Precision delivery’

“Our precision delivery promise means no more waiting at home all day for your general merchandise order to arrive. Customers can now choose the 60-minute time slot in which they’d like their Hyper delivery to arrive, with the same to-the-minute driver tracking they’ve become accustomed to on their grocery orders,” Schreuder said.

The new Sixty60 app is currently available to customers who live in the following areas in Cape Town: Kuils River, Brackenfell, Durbanville, Bellville, Goodwood, Edgemead, Milnerton, Century City, Table View, Blouberg, Parklands, Rondebosch, Observatory, Gardens, Sea Point and Camps Bay.

“As with the launch of Checkers Sixty60 in 2019, the national roll-out will follow a phased approach after beta testing to ensure a seamless customer experience,” Shoprite said.  — (c) 2024 NewsCentral Media
