Telkom’s Internet service provider, Telkom Internet, is stepping up the battle with rivals, announcing on Wednesday that it will double subscribers’ data allocation between October 2015 and March 2016.

The promotion means that Telkom Internet’s data pricing will be more in line with the fees charged by other ISPs.

It’s also trimming the price of some of its high-end “soft cap” and uncapped products, it said.

Customers on Telkom’s largest soft cap package will now receive 1TB of data per month, with the price falling from R2 495 to R1 599.

Telkom’s data top-up rates have also been reduced and the double data promotion also applies to top-up options. (See the tables below for more details.)

Telkom also announced the return of its “TI Entertainment” add-on for R99/month, which offers customers an uncapped experience to selected content sites including Apple TV, iTunes and DStv online services such as BoxOffice and Catch Up.

The company also said it will use its mobile network to ensure that customers awaiting installations and those in high fault zones are able to access their monthly fixed data allocation to connect to the Internet using the on-net Telkom Mobile network.

This service will be targeted at “certain customers” and will require a Telkom Internet Sim card with specific configuration settings to enable the alternative access and to set up modems and devices for use or failover. — (c) 2015 NewsCentral Media
