Noko vs Izikhothane by Ramscomics was the most popular video on YouTube among South Africans in 2014, the Google-owned online video service disclosed on Wednesday. A news programme from broadcaster eNCA on Oscar Pistorius came in second. The list excludes videos from major music labels.

Politics also had a big impact on which videos South Africans consumed in 2014, with Julius Malema’s speech in parliament after the state of the nation address placing third and a pre-election advertisement featuring the Democratic Alliance’s Mmusi Maimane placing fifth on the YouTube list.

Gaming channel Pew Die Pie came in first place in the list of the most popular YouTube channels for the second year running. This list was chosen based on channel subscriber growth in 2014 as well as account views, reach and engagement, according to Google.

Collectively, the top 10 global videos were watched more than 667m times.
