A triumvirate of Sentech executives has been appointed to lead the troubled state-owned broadcast signal distributor until a full-time CEO can be appointed.

TechCentral has learnt from sources at Sentech that a caretaker team has been appointed, led by acting chief operating officer Dingane Dube.

Maxwell Nonge and Jayselan Coopsamy have been appointed to assist Dube, who was previously the head of regulatory and government affairs at the company. Nonge is GM for operations and maintenance and Coopsamy is GM for financial management.

Their appointment follows the recent resignation of acting CEO Beverly Ngwenya and chief financial officer Mohammed Cassim.

The Sunday Times reported recently that Ngwenya and Cassim have been charged with “gross negligence” as a result of alleged reckless spending.

Communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda recently appointed a new chairman to the Sentech board, Quraysh Patel, to try to deal with a deepening crisis at the company.

Sentech is a critical roleplayer in SA’s planned migration from analogue to digital terrestrial television.

It’s understood the board has already begun interviewing candidates for the CEO job at the parastatal. The board will then submit its recommendations to Nyanda.

It’s not known how long the process will take.  — Duncan McLeod, TechCentral
