As expected, Microsoft has announced that Zoaib Hoosen is taking its South African subsidiary’s leadership position, replacing MD Mteto Nyati who has held this position for the past six years.

TechCentral broke the news at the weekend that Hoosen was set to take the reins in South Africa, with Nyati moving into a regional role in Africa.

Nyati, who has run Microsoft’s South African operation since September 2008, has been named as GM for Middle East and African emerging regions.

Hoosen joined Microsoft South Africa in 2010 as enterprise and partner group director and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2013. “Hoosen was appointed into a strategic role a year ago that formed part of the transition that was announced today,” says Nyati.  “Hoosen’s old role will not be filled at this time.”

For the past year, Hoosen has managed a large portion of the Microsoft South Africa business, says Nyati.

Nyati’s new role involves working with leadership teams across the Middle East and Africa to develop and implement growth strategies for the emerging markets in the region. He will be based in South Africa, but says he will travel extensively.

“Africa has been a very important initiative for us. The corporation has asked me to create a people plan for Microsoft in Africa,” says Nyati.

He says that the company would like to double its South African business in the next four to five years but he declined to talk numbers.

Nyati says Microsoft will not change any of its corporate structures following the changes. “Right now, we need to go from country to country to understand the growth that we are looking for.”  — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
