Orange is continuing its steady assault on South Africa’s telecommunications industry, announcing on Wednesday that will launch its first branded store in the country in January.
The French operator, which already sells phones, tablets and other electronic gear to South Africans through its online store, says its first brick-and-mortar store will be situated in Claremont, near Cape Town, and will open for trading next month.
“The response to the Orange online store from the South African market exceeded our expectations,” says Orange Horizons CEO Sébastien Crozier in a media statement.
“This led to a local warehouse being established to service this market, and now the opening of our first retail store in the country. The store … provides a further platform for the brands growth into Africa, which is a key market for us.”
Orange says the store will offer a wide range of gadgets and accessories. It will also feature click-and-collect facilities, act as a drop-off point for repairs and returns, act as a point of sale for Orange top-up products, and provide customer service concerning the Orange travel products for South Africans travelling abroad.
Crozier says the store will also act as a point of service for the brand’s Internet service provider activity in the country when it launches that business in 2015. — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
