Vox Orion CEO Jacques du Toit will take the reins at Vox Telecom with immediate effect after a decision by co-CEOs Doug Reed and Angus MacRobert to step down.

MacRobert, who is a former CEO of Dimension Data division Internet Solutions, will leave Vox Telecom, which was delisted from the JSE in 2011, to focus on his various investments in the technology industry. He joined Vox 18 months ago.

Reed, who founded Vox Telecom, will stay on at the company in a strategic role. “The investors felt they needed new blood,” Reed tells TechCentral of the shake-up, adding that he will remain “intimately involved” in the business.

Du Toit, who joined the company in 2006 after Vox’s acquisition of Orion Telecom in a deal worth about R380m, says a consolidation of the company’s businesses will provide a basis for future growth. He expects this consolidation, which has included moving all Vox staff to a central campus in Johannesburg, to be completed in about three months’ time.

Reed, who will continue to be involved in strategic projects and product development, describes Du Toit as “young and energetic” and says he “understands the enterprise side of the business well”. He says Vox is poised for good growth following the merger and integration of the company’s operating subsidiaries, which has included moving staff to one central facility.

Vox Telecom’s main shareholders are Investec, Metier and Rand Merchant Bank.  — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
