    Duplicate payments snafu hits FNB clients

    First National Bank has suspended “some online functionality” while it investigated duplicate transactions on some customers’ accounts. The bank says the suspension will be brief while it reversing affected customer accounts.

    “Limited functionality will be available on the following banking channels: FNB online banking, the FNB app, and .mobi and cellphone banking,” FNB said in a statement on Saturday.

    “Customers are advised to use FNB ATM’s and [the] point of sale for any urgent banking needs,” it added. “FNB apologises to customers for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the matter as a priority.”

    The decision to suspend some online functions follows numerous complaints on social media platforms on Saturday about duplicate transactions by FNB customers. Duplications appear to have affected both payments and receipts in affected accounts.

    FNB’s Twitter account, @rbjacobs, tweeted: “Please note we will be reversing all duplicate transactions that have occurred as a matter of urgency. Thank you for your understanding.”  — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
