TechCentral’s editor, Duncan McLeod, sat down with outgoing MTN group interim executive chairman Phuthuma Nhleko on Friday to talk about the past, present and future of the telecommunications giant. Friday is Nhleko’s last day as, in effect, interim CEO ahead of the arrival on Monday of his replacement, Rob Shuter.
In the interview, McLeod asks Nhleko about what he believes his biggest achievement was as leader of MTN and what he regards as his biggest regret.
Also in the podcast, Nhleko talks about the changing shape of the global and South African mobile industries and how MTN is adapting.
He talks about the controversial ICT policy white paper of the South African government. And he opens up in detail about that fine in Nigeria. Did MTN deserve it, or was it treated unfairly by Nigeria’s authorities? You might be surprised by Nhleko’s answer.
