Former MTN South Africa CEO Mteto Nyati will take the reins at JSE-listed technology group Altron earlier than previously planned.
Nyati, who resigned suddenly, and unexpectedly, as the head of MTN’s South African operations after just two-and-a-half years in the job, will take over from Robbie Venter as CEO of Altron on 1 April.
Nyati joined MTN in October 2014 as group chief enterprise officer, soon thereafter moving into the South African CEO role.
Previously, Altron had said that Nyati would start by “no later than” 1 July.
Now, from 1 April, Venter will work with Nyati during a handover period.
Venter is the son of Altron founder Bill Venter. Both men will remain involved in the business as nonexecutive directors. Bill Venter recently stepped down as chairman.
The changes come as Altron transitions away from a family-controlled and family-run business.
