The South African Post Office on Thursday said it has launched a free app for Android and iOS that allows customers to keep track of all their parcels.
Called simply “South African Post Office”, the app also allows users to locate their nearest branch.
The app tracks and traces both South African and international parcels using tracking numbers, the Post Office said in a statement.
“It immediately reports where the item was dispatched from, where it was scanned en route and the name of the person who collected it. Customers can also simply scan the barcode of the track-and-trace label to track the item,” the state-owned company said.
“This is intrinsic to our new trajectory of modernising our services as a Group, with technology being the critical enabler for customer solutions. More efforts are underway to ensure reliable customer service,” said chief information officer Mthoko Mncwabe in the statement.
Mncwabe said the “find a branch” functionality uses satellite navigation to locate the user, and then provides all Post Office branches within a radius of 10km, along with street addresses and contact details.
The app shows whether motor vehicle licence renewals can be done at each branch. During the past financial year, more than 3m motor vehicle licences were renewed at Post Office branches. — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media
