By way of an apology, Vodacom is giving customers affected by the “glitch” that hit its systems this week 500MB of free data.
The mobile operator said on Twitter on Wednesday that it will give customers the free data allocation, but it must be used within three days or be forfeited.
The company encouraged affected users to dial *111# from their mobile phones to check if their accounts have been credited with the 500MB of data.
The glitch hit Vodacom’s systems on Monday night, causing many prepaid and top-up customers to lose data. By late on Tuesday morning, most affected affected customers had already been reimbursed, said spokesman Byron Kennedy.
Angry customers took to social media networks on Monday evening to complain that their airtime and data bundles were disappearing.
Kennedy, who said contract customers were not affected by the problem, promised that all affected users would be reimbursed. Vodacom apologised for the problem, which was caused a system change that went awry. — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media
