An application that’s designed to help speed up and improve the accuracy and ease of performing inspections of behalf of insurers has won the overall prize in the annual App of the Year awards.
The awards, conceptualised by Creative Space Media and sponsored by MTN Business, recognise South African mobile app development talent. The idea is to showcase locally developed mobile apps that have made a “positive and lasting impact on consumers during the past 12 months”.
The winners are selected by an independent panel of judges. Judges this year were editor and poet Kojo Baffoe, journalist Toby Shapshak, mobile telecommunications expert Jonathan Hoehler, mobile specialist and developer Max Stone and radio personality Aki Anastasiou.
Winner Live Inspect, developed by Lightstone Auto, walked away with a R200 000 prize. According to Lightstone Auto’s website, the app assists short-term insurers in performing effective inspections on vehicles. It equips insurers with tools to capture and report details on vehicles presented for inspections, giving insight into their physical condition.
The app provides the ability to capture the driver’s information, along with date, time and location stamps. It uses licence-disc scanning, driver’s licence card scanning and data verification using Lightstone’s various automotive data sets. Live Inspect is available for Android and iOS.
