It’s the phone of the moment. Samsung’s Galaxy S8, the Korean manufacturer’s new flagship device, is the device to own right now. But which operators have the best deals?
Tariffic, a company which helps companies and individuals manage their cellphone spending by tracking the complex tariffs of the mobile providers, has done the hard work of analysing what’s on offer — and MTN has come out on top for consumers taking the phone on a contract.
The company’s latest quarterly tracker focuses on the best Galaxy S8 deals available in the market. It’s based its research on a theoretical sampling of users with different cellphone consumption patterns.
The users are Susanne, who uses 200 minutes and 1GB of data; Dineo who uses 350 minutes and 2,5GB of data; and Tshepo who uses 500 minutes and 5GB of data.
Tariffic calculated the optimal all-in price that each user would pay every month, which includes their subscription (with any additional handset instalment), add-on bundles and out-of-bundle spend. The company listed the promotional extras that the mobile network operators are offering as well.
“The results show that in all three cases, MTN’s My MTNChoice+ deals offered either the best or the second best deals,” Tariffic said.
“This was followed by Telkom, whose FreeMe packages came in second best on two occasions and third best for the heavy cellphone user. It is also interesting to note that the best deals on the cheapest network are, on average, 40% cheaper than the best deals on the most expensive network.”
Tariffic CEO Antony Seeff said: “Many people look for the cheapest deal they can find when purchasing a new contract with the phone they want. But they’ll land up paying for it down the line when they go out of bundle because the contract they chose wasn’t right for them.”
Seeff said people looking for the S8 handset should select the best contract for them based on the phone they want but also based on their unique behaviour. “This may cost more upfront, but will be much cheaper in the long term.” — (c) 2017 NewsCentral Media
