TelkomInternet, Telkom’s Internet service provider, is raising the bandwidth caps it imposes on its AllAccess customers as competition intensifies.
In July, the company announced a promotion for its “data hungry” customers in which the monthly data cap on 1GB accounts would increase to 5GB; 5GB accounts would go up to 10GB; and 9GB users would get 20GB. The company has now introduced new, higher data caps, though they’re not not as generous as what was offered as part of the promotion.
Users of the 3GB TelkomInternet AllAccess service will now get 4GB/month for the same price, whereas the 6GB option will go up to 8GB and the 10GB product will increase to 16GB.
This new offer will not affect the “free” local data allocated on these packages. TelkomInternet users on these plans will automatically receive the increase data cap from 1 October. Subscribers to the 1GB/month service will not enjoy an increase in their data allocation. However, Telkom says that for R20 more per month, 1GB customers currently paying R79 for their service can upgrade to 4GB.
The increased bandwidth comes on the back of robust competition in the Internet service provider market, which has resulted in the price per gigabyte of bandwidth plummeting in the past two years. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
