South African Post Office acting group CEO Mlu Mathonsi is resigning for “personal reasons”.
The company made the announcement on Monday morning. Mathonsi was also the Post Office’s chief operating officer.
“He indicated his intentions to leave the South African Post Office, having joined in July 2014. I can confirm that his departure is amicable,” said board chairman Simo Lushaba in a statement.
Lushaba further said that Mathonsi has helped the Post Office during its administration period. The company was put under administration in November 2014, after facing financial problems and a months-long strike that crippled services.
“The administration period was very intricate based on the fact that the Post Office faced real near implosion,” said Lushaba.
“Mathonsi made an immense contribution towards both the immediate stabilisation of the operations and the development of the strategic turnaround of the Post Office,” Lushaba added.
The company said it is focused on finding replacements for its chief operating officer and group CEO positions.
Mathonsi’s resignation also comes after former Post Office CEO Christopher Hlekane’s contract was terminated on 1 September 2015, following allegations of mismanagement of funds. — Fin24
