The BBC has launched its iPlayer radio app in South Africa and markets around the world, allowing users to tune into the British public broadcaster’s wide range of radio stations streaming on the Internet.
Available in the UK since 2012, the free BBC iPlayer Radio app provides access to the BBC World Service in English and a host of national and regional BBC stations.
The BBC World Service in English, which has a global audience of 66m, will automatically display on a touchscreen dial when users outside the UK open the app for the first time.
Users can spin the dial to access more BBC radio stations, which offer news, music, drama and comedy, the broadcaster said in a statement.
The app also allows users to catch up or listen again to their favourite radio programmes, download podcasts, browse and listen to carefully curated highlights and collections, view daily schedules and categories, discover audio and video clips, including live performances and see what tracks are playing on air as well as track lists for on-demand programmes.
The app includes a built-in alarm clock and night mode.
The BBC iPlayer Radio app is now available globally for iOS, Android and Amazon devices. At launch, the BBC iPlayer Radio app supports iOS running 7.1 and above, Android 4.0 and above and Amazon Kindle Fire 2012 and above. — © 2016 NewsCentral Media
