Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pockets next month as the price of petrol is set to increase by 49c/l.
In a statement on Thursday, the department of energy said both grades of petrol, 93 and 95 (ULP and LRP), will rise by 49c, while the price of diesel (0,05% sulphur) will increase by 30c.
With the new prices set to come into operation on Wednesday, motorists in Gauteng who paid R13,30 for a litre of 95 ULP in April will now pay R13,79 for a litre of 95 ULP.
The price of diesel (0,005% sulphur) will rise by 32c, while the cost of illuminating paraffin (wholesale) will increase by 34c and that of illuminating paraffin (retail) will increase by 46c.
The maximum retail price for liquid petroleum gas will increase by 96c.
“The average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review,” said the energy department, adding that the rand depreciated against the US dollar during the period under review. — SAnews
