After a stint at Telkom, former Samsung Electronics SA MD Deon Liebenberg has resigned from the telecommunications operator. He will join Vodacom on 1 February, a spokesman for the mobile operator has confirmed.
Liebenberg, who joined Telkom on 1 July as managing executive for Telkom Business Mobile, is understood to be leaving the company on good terms. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
The Vodacom spokesman was not able to say which position Liebenberg would be filling at the company.
Before joining Telkom, Liebenberg had headed Samsung Electronics for a year and oversaw the launch over the Korean company’s flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone in South Africa.
Prior to Samsung, he had been regional director for sub-Saharan Africa at BlackBerry maker Research in Motion for about four years.
While at RIM, he was credited with building the BlackBerry brand in South Africa and helping turn it into the country’s most popular smartphone platform among retail consumers. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
