In an unexpected development, technology group Reunert, which owns brands such as Nashua Mobile and Reutech, has announced that its long-serving CEO, Gerrit Pretorius, better known as Boel, will step down on 1 August. Reunert has not said why Pretorius is leaving a year before his contract was due to end.
The group has appointed Nick Wentzel to replace Pretorius, who will also leave Reunert’s board.
“It was regarded in the best interests of the group to initiate the search for a successor well in advance of Boel’s retirement,” says Reunert chairman Trevor Munday.
“Boel has been CEO since 1997 and we knew the internal and external search process would take time. With Boel’s agreement and active support, the board therefore initiated a process of finding a successor for him in February 2009, to allow for sufficient time to identify the best candidate and to plan for a smooth handover period.”
Wentzel, 54, a chartered accountant, has been CEO of Parmalat SA since 2009. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
