Stage one power cuts will be implemented on Monday afternoon, electricity provider Eskom said.
The company posted on its Twitter feed at 2.30pm: “Stage 1 load shedding to be implemented from 4pm to 10pm due to shortage of capacity.”
Earlier on Monday, spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said Eskom could meet current electricity demand.
“The power system is constrained but stable,” Phasiwe said.
“We have enough generator capacity to meet the demand.”
Phasiwe said if Eskom lost a unit or if demand increased, rolling power cuts would be implemented.
“But so far we are able to meet the demand.”
On Sunday, Eskom ended stage two rolling power cuts around 10pm.
It warned the power system would be under “severe pressure” over the coming week. — Sapa
