Communications regulator Icasa has reached an agreement with striking employees, in the process ending a six-week-long strike.
The strike, which affected a number of services offered by Icasa — including the issuing of new licences — began in early July, with workers vowing not to return to work until their demands were met.
The workers wanted a pay rise of 7% and bonus pay, back-dated to 2014. They also demanded that certain human resource policies, including a performance management system, be scrapped.
Icasa said on Monday that its management team “has always been open to communication with staff representatives to ensure that all matters are resolved”. It said its engagements with the striking employees have proved “fruitful”, but did not say what it had agreed to.
“Icasa would like to thank all parties involved in these engagements, including the mediator thereof. Even though there was little interruption on business operations during the time of strike, stakeholders are informed that Icasa is now operating with the full complement of staff.” — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media
