Apple’s new, larger-screen tablet, the 12,9-inch iPad Pro, goes on sale in South Africa on Friday. But those wanting one had better be prepared to stump up a lot of cash thanks to the sorry state of the rand.
The iPad Pro, which has received mixed reviews, will start at R13 499 for the 32GB, Wi-Fi version and go all the way up to R17 999 for the 128GB version with both Wi-Fi and cellular support. The other option is a 128GB Wi-Fi-only model, which will set buyers back R15 999, said local distributor Core Group.
The same models retail in the US for US$799 (32GB; Wi-Fi), $949 (128GB; Wi-Fi) and $1 079 (128GB; Wi-Fi and cellular) before sales tax.
The device, which is 6,9mm thick and which weighs just over 700g, is available in silver, gold and “space grey”.
South African availability of the optional iPad Pro Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil is yet to be confirmed, Core Group said. These extras retail in the US for $169 and $99 respectively. — (c) 2015 NewsCentral Media
