Details about Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, appear to have been leaked accidentally by its Indonesian subsidiary five days before the Korean firm was due to announce the product at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Samsung in Indonesia accidentally posted a video to YouTube (see below) showing off the S7’s features — including the fact that it will be waterproof, or at least water resistant, and have wireless charging capabilities.
US technology website The Verge said the video doesn’t name the Samsung model being used. Although it’s very similar to 2015’s S6 Edge, with curved screen, the video shows the device being used in heavy rain by Indonesian archer Dellie Threesyadinda, suggesting the device will be waterproof, unlike its predecessor.
The video also shows the phone being placed on a wireless charging pad.
The Verge said a teaser website for the S7, also located in Indonesia, shows a page with bubbles alongside the words “worry-less discovery”, implying again that the device is waterproof or water resistant.
The website also shows a lock icon with the words “experience privacy at its finest”, suggesting security enhancements to the device.
Lastly, the website hints at better low-light photography with the words “bring light to the night” alongside a picture of a camera lens.
Samsung will officially take the wraps off the S7 on Sunday at 8pm South African time. — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media
