Sparks are expected to fly at the department of communications on Monday when ousted director-general Mamodupi Mohlala is set to return to work.

Mohlala says she is determined to reclaim her old job after the department of public service & administration apparently failed to find her an equivalent position in another government department.

Anyone who attempts to bar her from returning to work will be in contempt of court, Mohlala adds.

Mohlala’s legal team has sent a letter to public services minister, Richard Baloyi, to state her objections to the surprise announcement in the Government Gazette last week that she had been appointed as an administrator the public service sector education & training authority (Pseta).

Mohlala says she was only given a verbal offer and has still not received a formal written offer for the position.

The department had not responded to requests for comment at the time of writing.

Mohlala was recently reinstated to her post at the communications department after she was unceremoniously fired by Nyanda in July.

Mohlala threatened to take legal action on the grounds of unfair dismissal.

However, Nyanda and Mohlala reached an out of court settlement that saw her effectively reinstated her to the position as director-general.

As part of the settlement, Mohlala agreed to take a month’s leave while Baloyi found her an alternative and equal position in another department. — Candice Jones, TechCentral
