Absa has partnered with MTN to allow subscribers to the telecommunications network operator to have zero-rated data access to the banking group’s Internet banking facilities.
MTN clients will get zero-rated (free) access via Absa’s smartphone banking application and via its mobile website at absa.mobi.
“Customers who don’t have data or airtime will be able to access digital banking at no charge through this initiative,” Absa said in a statement.
The bank did not say how much it is paying MTN to facilitate the free access.
At the same time, Absa has announced it has partnered with China’s Huawei to pre-load the bank’s app on all Y560 smartphones, eliminating the need for consumer to use data to download it before using it. The Huawei Y560 is an entry level LTE smartphone exclusive to MTN.
Absa said it plans to pre-load the app on other smartphones in future. — (c) 2015 NewsCentral Media
