The leafy Johannesburg suburbs of Saxonwold and Parkwood are next in line to get fibre to the home (FTTH) from telecommunications start-up Vumatel, it was announced on Thursday.
The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association (Sapra) has endorsed Vumatel as the preferred supplier to install FTTH in the area.
Infrastructure work will commence in the third quarter of the year, with the first homes and businesses scheduled to be connected by September this year, the company said in a statement.
The two suburbs join Parkhurst, Greenside, Parktown North, Killarney and Riviera in getting Vumatel fibre. Parkhurst was the first suburb to be connected to high-speed fibre broadband.
The company has also introduced a new offering, a 20Mbit/s connection option, which will be comparable in cost to a 4Mbit/s copper connection from Telkom.
Meanwhile, Vumatel has announced that the first homes in Greenside and Parktown North went live on its fibre network at the end of April. — © 2015 NewsCentral Media
