The Nokia 8110 is back: HMD Global goes retro again

HMD Global, the company that has the licence to make Nokia-branded phones, loves retro. The company has introduced the second “reinvented” feature phone from the classic Nokia line-up, this time taking the wraps off the new Nokia 8110 at Mobile World Congress.

The 8110 is a slider phone, just like its forebear, but the new model supports 4G, including voice-over-LTE calling.

As with the original, users simply slide the phone to answer or end a call.

It’s the second classic feature phone to be released by HMD Global after last year’s Nokia 3310, which, the company says, proved to be a big hit worldwide, including in the South African market.

The new 8110, which comes with Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search, Facebook and Twitter, can be used as a wireless hotspot and will be available in May in black and “banana yellow” variants for €79 (R1 100 before import duties, VAT and other taxes).

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm 205 processor.

Oh, and it comes with a new version of the classic game Snake. What’s not to like?  — (c) 2018 NewsCentral Media
