Consumers who buy Samsung Electronics’ new Galaxy S4 smartphone get a 24-month warranty with it, which includes two free repairs or replacements in the case of accidental damage.
The cover extends to damaged screens and water damage and applies to all markets in Africa.
The phone, which goes on sale through all four South African mobile operators this weekend, is available in an eight-core processor 3G model and a quad-core 4G/LTE version.
Only the 32GB 3G version will be available at launch, with the LTE model expected to follow within six weeks at a cost of R300 to R400 more than the 3G version, which will retail for a recommended R8 499.
Samsung Electronics Africa chief operating officer George Ferreira warns that the company may struggle to meet demand at launch given the device is being launched simultaneously in South Africa and the rest of the world – something he says is a first – but expects to have adequate supply in the market within two or three weeks.
He says Samsung has sold 18m devices in South Africa in the past year, and continues to enjoy strong demand for the Galaxy S3, which will remain on sale.
The Galaxy S4 will be available from 10am on Saturday through Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom Mobile. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
