MTN chief marketing officer Santie Botha has quit after seven years at the cellphone group. She’s leaving to “pursue new endeavours”, according to a statement.
Botha was appointed to MTN’s board in 2003 after a lengthy stint as a group executive director at Absa, where she was responsible for its e-commerce programme.
It’s not known yet where Botha is headed. However, analysts say more senior MTN executives could leave in the wake of the decision by group CEO Phuthuma Nhleko not to renew his contract. Nhleko is expected to leave MTN by March next year.
Nhleko says Botha made a “most appreciated contribution” to MTN, assisting it in embedding the group’s brand across the 21 countries in which it operates in the Middle East and Africa.
Meanwhile, the group has appointed Ignatius Sehoole as vice-president of MTN’s South and East Africa region. He takes over from British national Tim Lowry, who left MTN in June.
Sehoole comes to the group from PwC (formerly PricewaterhouseCoopers), where he was joint deputy CEO. Before that, he was the executive president of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
