T-Systems, a unit of German telecommunications operator Deutsche Telekom, has acquired 100% of South African enterprise information management business Intervate, which employs over 100 people in Gauteng and the Western Cape. The parties aren’t disclosing the value of the deal.
Intervate, a Microsoft partner, develops solutions that help companies improve their productivity and collaborate more effectively. It is a key supplier of Microsoft’s SharePoint product.
“Intervate is a Microsoft-focused business, which will assist T-Systems in growing this partnership,” T-Systems South Africa says. Its customer base covers T-Systems focus sectors, including government, finance and insurance, telecommunications, education, IT, retail, mining, and automotive manufacturing.
Mobility and cloud computing were also key considerations behind the deal. “Intervate has a strong background in the development of mobile applications, which will complement T-Systems’ mobile offering,” T-Systems says.
The company will operate as a legal entity under the T-Systems systems integration division. It will remain in its own office in Johannesburg for now, but will move into T-Systems’ headquarters in Midrand “in due course”.
MD Lionel Moyal will head up the newly created enterprise information management business in T-Systems South Africa.
The acquisition is effective 1 January 2014. — (c) 2014 NewsCentral Media
