    Telkom FTTH prices, plans revealed

    Fibre-Optic-640

Telkom has announced the launch plans and prices for its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband network. The company is launching 20Mbit/s, 40Mbit/s and 100Mbit/s services in selected areas in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

Homes in Groenkloof, Houghton, Eldoraigne, Parktown and Westcliff in Gauteng; Chelmsfordville, Dawncrest and Winston Park in Kwa-Zulu Natal; and Clairmont, Bishops Court and Plattekloof in the Western Cape now have access to superfast broadband over Telkom’s fibre network, the company said in a statement.

Customers in these areas can opt for Telkom’s promotional fibre 24-month offers, including a 20Mbit/s line with a 50GB data package for R999/month; 40Mbit/s line with 100GB package at R1 299/month and 100Mbit/s line with 200GB of data for R1 799/month.

All three packages include a free Wi-Fi router, a 3GB mailbox, e-mail accounts with five aliases and unlimited “night surfer” data.

“Our value proposition has been designed to meet our customer’s growing appetite for media rich online content, allowing them to seamlessly engage with the most bandwidth hungry applications for a truly connected home experience,” said Telkom chief operating officer Brian Armstrong.

“Telkom is gearing up to be as responsive to SA’s growing demand for fibre as possible. We are well positioned, as the most experienced fibre player in the country, to truly deliver on this demand,” said Armstrong.

Earlier this year Telkom announced the start of its fibre roll-out to over 20 suburbs across South Africa and this roll-out will continue until March 2015, the company said. “Customers in the areas already identified as part of the roll-out can register their interest for Telkom’s FTTH offers and will then be informed as soon as the network is available in their area.”

It added: “Telkom’s FTTH connectivity uses a pure Ethernet connection, eliminating the requirement for intermediate equipment such as modems. This results in a much more stable and reliable service.”  — (c) 2014 NewsCentral Media
