Times Media Group’s Vidi online video-on-demand platform is expanding its offering with a range of local television dramas, movies and children’s programming.

Vidi has licensed a range of programming from the SABC, providing viewers with access to shows such as the drama High Rollers and the comedy series My Perfect Family. The company has also secured the rights to the children’s series Urbo: The Adventures of Pax Afrika and the educational series African Sky Stories.

The platform, which provides on-demand video to paying subscribers, will also soon get access to locally made movies such as Liefling, Jimmy in Pienk, Semi-Soet, Between Friends, How to Steal Two Million and Paradise Stop.

In a a statement, Vidi marketing manager Taryn Uhlmann says further local content will be added to the line-up in the months ahead.

The Vidi service, which was launched last year, costs R149/month. Subscribers can also rent the latest movies for R27/title or R15 for older titles.

News of the additional content on the Vidi platform comes a week after Netflix, the biggest on-demand streaming company in the US, reportedly confirmed plans to launch in South Africa before the end of next year.
