Absa has released its transactional banking application for BlackBerry devices, but only for those phones running the older BlackBerry 5, 6 and 7 operating systems.
The bank already has apps for iPhone and Android and recently launched a version for BlackBerry’s new Z10 smartphone, which is powered by the Canadian company’s new BlackBerry 10 software.
The app appeared in the BlackBerry App World for download on Wednesday.
Absa retail banking head Arrie Rautenbach says the technology incorporated into the new BlackBerry app integrates seamlessly with all other Absa digital banking channels.
Users can check account balances, transfer funds between accounts, pay beneficiaries and purchase airtime for mobile devices.
Rautenbach says the app is available to both individual and business customers and allows users to link multiple BlackBerry devices, smartphones or tablet computers to a single profile, or link multiple banking profiles — whether business or personal — to a single device.
“As a security feature, the device is required to be linked to an Absa Online banking profile,” Rautenbach says.
“This is a security feature to ensure that no unauthorised attempts can be made to access a customer’s banking profile via the app. Devices that are lost or changed can be ‘deauthorised’, while new devices that are identified by the app will be required to be authorised by the customer.” — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
