Absa’s online and mobile portals went down on Friday, with the bank directing frustrated customers to its branches and ATMs. But it’s still keeping mum about what exactly went wrong on the busiest banking day of the month.
The services were available intermittently early on Monday morning, with full service restored by midmorning. Absa hasn’t offered an explanation for the downtime. A bank spokesman tells TechCentral that its online and mobile banking systems “have now been restored to full service availability”.
“The bank’s website is currently experiencing intermittent availability and users may experience problems loading the page, though the logon button to online banking is available. We apologise for the continued inconvenience as we establish the cause of the problem.”
Asked about the cause of the outage the spokesman says the bank is “not able to give further technical details at this stage”. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
