The department of communications is moving ahead to plans to overhaul the legislation that governs South Africa’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
Communications minister Yunus Carrim will launch a national consultative conference on the new National Integrated ICT Policy Green Paper at an event on 3 March at Emperors Palace on Gauteng’s East Rand. The event will kick off at 10am.
The conference will be open to a second round of public consultations in the ICT policy review process that evaluates the impact of existing ICT policies. It will help develop new policies that respond to technological changes to help bridge the digital divide and help to deal with inequalities and unequal access to services in the country.
Consultative workshops across the country will take place following the launch of the conference in Johannesburg.
Provincial workshop dates are as follows:
— North West – 7 March
— Mpumalanga – 14 March
— Eastern Cape – 20 March
— Limpopo – 20 March
— Kwa-Zulu Natal – 24 March
— Western Cape – 25 March
— Northern Cape – 27 March
— Free State – 27 March
