[dropcap]T[/dropcap]yrone Soondarjee is set to replace Robert Pasley as chief financial officer of mobile operator Cell C.
Soondarjee, who will take over the company’s finance portfolio on 1 July, joins Cell C at a crucial juncture: the operator will soon conclude a major restructuring that will result in parent Oger Telecom reducing its stake to a non-controlling interest and JSE-listed Blue Label Telecoms acquiring a significant minority shareholding.
As part of that restructuring, the plan is to reduce Cell C’s debt from more than R20bn to less than R6bn.
Soondarjee, who has 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, was most recently financial director at Sasfin Group.
Throughout his 10-year tenure at Sasfin, Soondarjee served on several boards of group companies.
Previously, he held several executive-level positions at what is now Deloitte and was the financial director at TNBS Mutual Bank.
He is a chartered accountant and received his BCompt (honours) degree from Unisa.
