JSE-listed information and communications technology group Datatec said on Thursday its subsidiary Westcon has agreed to acquire Netpoleon, an Indonesian distributor of IT security, networking and convergence solutions. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Netpolean also provides managed and training services. Prior to the acquisition, Netpoleon operated as a Westcon franchisee in Singapore. Though the value of the deal won’t be made public, Datatec says it will be settled with US$1m worth of Datatec shares and the remainder in cash.

Westcon has an existing presence in south-east Asia but until now hasn’t had one in Indonesia. Datatec CEO Jens Montanana says Netpoleon’s vendor porfolio is “complementary” and the move brings “significant possibilities for quickly increasing [Indonesia’s] significance to Westcon”.

He says Indonesia is a rapidly developing market economy with the fourth largest population in the world and its IT sector is growing quickly.

Netpoleon has been operating since 2000, has a portfolio of solutions that covers seven vendors and achieved unaudited revenues of $11m for the year ended 31 December 2011. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
