First National Bank clients on Sunday reported being unable to use their bank cards at the point of sale or at ATMs as a major outage hit the financial services institution.
Users turned to social media to share their frustration at being unable to make purchases.
“FNB is down, I have no cash on me and my fridge has hit that end-of-the-month emptiness and I cannot buy food. This is insane @Rbjacobs,” tweeted a frustrated Makhila-Jane Murphy (@MiksMurph). @Rbjacobs is FNB’s consumer-facing Twitter account.
CJ (@chimjoel) tweeted: “Whats up with #fnb today? Child sick needs meds but can’t pay anything not withdraw cash from my #fnb card. Upsetting!”
User @oh_my_kesh said: “Are u kidding me? #fnb is down so I can’t pay for anything right now after shopping for an hour and a half?!”
“Lol. After all that drama, FNB is offline … my card was declined 3 times for a R120 transaction, I can’t be that broke,” said Mthobisi (@mthobisi).
The bank’s digital channels appeared to be unaffected by the outage.
