The R77 000 iPhone has arrived in South Africa

Apple's first foldable iPhone carries a steeper local premium than its new HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K.

The R77 000 iPhone has arrived in South Africa
iPhone’s new folding phone, the Duo

Apple’s iPhone Duo will cost South Africans R47 999 for the 256GB model and R76 999 for the 2TB version, according to pricing on the iStore website. That makes the foldable the most expensive iPhone in the Apple reseller’s range.

The top-end 2TB Duo costs R17 000 more than a 2TB iPhone 18 Pro Max, which iStore sells for R59 999. In between, the 512GB Duo costs R52 999 and the 1TB model R62 499. The Duo is available for pre-order, with iStore quoting shipping in one to two weeks.

The local pricing comes in below TechCentral’s estimate in September, when the base model looked set to cost more than R50 000 and the 2TB version more than R80 000.

    The top-end 2TB Duo costs R17 000 more than a 2TB iPhone 18 Pro Max, which iStore sells for R59 999

iStore has also opened pre-orders for Apple’s new home devices. The HomeView smart-home display and the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K each cost R6 299 and ship from 13 November. The HomePod mini 2 costs R3 499. The previous Apple TV 4K, the 2022 model, remains on sale from R4 199.

Compared with Apple’s US prices, the Duo carries a much bigger South African premium than the home devices.

In the US, the Duo costs between US$1 999 and $3 199 before sales tax, according to Apple’s US online store. Converted at about R16.46 to the dollar, and with South Africa’s 15% VAT added, the base model would cost about R37 800. Instead, it costs R47 999, a premium of about 27%, and the gap is similar across all four storage tiers.

HomeView and the new Apple TV 4K, both $299, carry a local premium of about 11% on the same basis. The HomePod mini 2, a $149 speaker, costs about 24% more.

*Converted at R16.46/$ and including 15% VAT. US prices exclude sales tax, which varies by state, so the comparison overstates the gap with what American buyers pay at the till

Some premium over a straight conversion is normal, because local prices carry a margin for currency swings and distribution costs. But the Duo’s is more than double that on HomeView and Apple TV.

HomeView, a 7-inch display that hangs on a wall or sits on a table and is used to manage the home and play entertainment, is built around Apple’s upgraded Siri, which is available in South Africa.  — (c) 2026 NewsCentral Media
